What is Fork A Meal?

Fork A Meal is a nonprofit organization that allows anyone in the Denver community to help a family suffering from food insecurity, and at the same time, support local independent restaurants that have been severely struggling since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

How does Fork A Meal work?

Fork A Meal uses an anonymous online process to connect the generosity of people who can help (Givers) with the people who need help (Grabbers) by providing donated coupons for food and soft drinks at local restaurants (Partners).

  • As a GIVER, you make a donation for a meal or family meal (4 persons) online or in-person at one of our fundraising events. When you pay, our platform generates a coupon for each item.
  • As a GRABBER family, you are invited to receive a “family coupon” (based on household size), and present this coupon at the participating restaurant in exchange for the food.
  • The RESTAURANT serves the food, then redeems the coupon online to trigger the payment by Fork A Meal.

How does Fork A Meal vet families?

Fork A Meal doesn’t directly vet families. Instead, Fork A Meal partners with other Human Services nonprofits that offer programs to help families get back on their feet – like the Family Ministry of the Denver Rescue Mission or the Empowerment centers at A Precious Child. When a family graduates from the program, they are eligible to receive a meal coupon to go celebrate.

Which restaurants can families go to?

Fork A Meal is helping local and independent restaurants. Currently, 8 restaurants accept Fork A Meal coupons throughout the Denver metro area. Places like Roaming Buffalo BBQ (Denver and Golden), Right Coast Pizza (Wheat Ridge) or the Woodcellar (Evergreen) are examples of local restaurants where families can enjoy a moment of comfort.

Is Fork A Meal a 501c3 organization?

Yes. On June 10, 2021, Fork A Meal received confirmation from the IRS on its tax-exempt status request. Donations made to Fork A Meal are deductible to the extent provided by law.
